LO1 Script: Ownership (Starter Task)

Rupert Murdoch: Owns 20th Century Fox (which is owned by 21st Century Fox) Which produces Film and TV. His first company was news corp which owns newspapers like The Sun, Sunday Times and The Times, but rebranded to 21st century Fox whilst news corp split off into its own company but still joint with 21st Century Fox.
Conglomerate (20th/21st Century Fox): A company made up of other companies (these are Subsidiaries).
 
Independent Company (Warp Films , used to make music): A company that isn’t owned and operates on its own but can own a company, They get to keep all there profit. They speak for themselves and answer for themselves.
 
Warp Films is a parent company to Warp Records which means they work alongside each other (Co-Company).They make Social Realism Films which means they focus on real life subjects (Drugs and poverty for example).
 
Cross Media Ownership (Sony): A company that makes more than one type of media by owning companies that make those different media. Sony:
  •        Films: Columbia
  •         Games: PlayStation
  •         Electronics (TV and Headphones etc.)
  •         Sony Music
  •         Mobiles: Sony Ericson
Cross Promotion:  Promote something throughout all Media types, such as James Bond is a film made by Sony, which they would make a game for it, and have merchandise which would go into electronics and then the Sound track would be made by Sony Music
Commercial: Makes a profit  (21st Century Fox)  (TV: Ads)
Public Service Broadcaster: Funded by public Money (TV Licence) (BBC and sometimes Channel 4)
Joint Venture: Works with other companies (Warp, Film 4, 20th Century and DreamWorks)
